It's June and everything is growing like crazy.

It's hard to believe I haven't posted in over a month. This has been the best spring for my flower garden. Each week something new blooms, and some things finish blooming. The zinnias are just gorgeous, and the lilies are in bloom. I saw a hummingbird last week in my black and blue salvia but it left before I could take a picture. Although we have had cicadas, they have not been particularly problemmatic in the garden. Bunches of shells here and there and a few flying into the window, but the sound is slowly getting quieter. As for the vegetable garden, I have been harvesting zucchini and zephyr squash for two weeks, and the first tomato is turning color. I harvested a lot of garlic, and the first onions will be ready to pick in two weeks. The garlic is curing in the basement and they will be followed by the onions which need to cure as well. Sweet potatoes are enjoying the heat in the front yard and everything was grateful for the rain the past few days. We ate our first two peppers and the first eggplant is almost ready to pick. There is still lots of kale, and tons of basil and dill and I have planted a new bunch of chard as last year's chard is going to seed. Chard is on a two year life cycle as is parsley. They flower the second year. The beans are going like crazy but they have just begun to flower so a few weeks before we can eat any beans and the cucumbers have tiny flowers and baby cukes behind them. We will see if they actually grow. Happy to say I have some pollinators.
