Despite April starting with two really cold nights, everything has survived and is looking wonderful. The basement is filled with flats of tomatoes, peppers, eggplants, zinnias, basil, etc., growing like crazy, and this week I can start hardening off the tomatoes and transplanting into larger pots. We have been harvesting kale, lettuce, scallions, spinach, arugula, and dragon tongue mustard , all of which had wintered over, and the new spinach, lettuce, etc., are doing well. The perennials are coming in and the hydrangeas are leafing out and the birds are having a field day in the newly spread leaf mulch. And this has been the best year for my sixty year old camellia bush. I love this time of year.
