The spinach, chinese cabbage and lettuce that was wintersown germinated too early due to some warm days here in Alexandria, VA so I had to bring them in to the basement light set up so they wouldn't freeze when the polar vortex brings really cold weather in the next week. Under the lights in the basement, a lot has germinated and started growing and some has already been transplanted to individual pots and some will be transplanted today -- -- bibb lettuce, sweet william, shallots, cabernet onions, two kinds of salvia, coreopsis early sunrise and blue horizon ageratum. This week I will start kale and angelonia inside and by the end of the month I will start my tomatoes, eggplant, and peppers. Onion plants should arrive in three weeks and onions get planted by March 15th. Outside we are still picking scallions and the arugula, mustard, and kale seem to be surviving the winter. Spring is coming even if it is snowing outside today. Here is a picture of what is growing in the basement right now. More to come.
